It is no news that Arsene Wenger is in the market for a defensive midfielder particularly a holding midfielder as he plans to strengthen the areas in his squad with defects. This has seen several midfielders like Morgan Schneideirlin, Thiago Motta, Arturo Vidal, and others all being linked to club.
With Schneideirlin signing for Manchester United and Vidal close to being a Bayern Munich player; Arsene Wenger has been keeping tabs on Monaco and Portuguese midfielder Joao Mountinho after the midfielder was put up for sale by the French club. Monaco are going through a period of recession and will be looking to continue its cost cutting scheme by offloading Joao Mountinho who earns as much £110,000 per week.
The 28 year old has made a significant impact at Monaco since he joined the them from Porto in 2013 and has made no secret of his desire in play in England after almost joining Tottenham in 2012. With Arteta and Flamini starting to gracefully decline and the potential departure of Rosicky, Arsene Wenger who has always been a keen admirer of the Portuguese man could seriously be considering bringing Mountinho to Arsenal.
His great passing and set piece taking abilities as well as his immense defensive contributions could prove useful to Arsenal as they challenge for a major silverware next season.
