Arsenal have already signed one defensive midfielder in the form of Mohamed Elneny, and they have been given encouragement in their pursuit of another. Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is a long-time fan of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Swiss international for some time now, and the latest words from the player’s father and agent must have provided encouragement to their pursuit.
‘At the moment I prefer not to say too much,’ Ragip Xhaka, agent and father of the Switzerland international, told Napolicalciolive.
‘We’ll see what happens. I can say that several big clubs are interested. Everything is possible, we’re not ruling anything out.’
Arsenal have been sending scouts to Monchengladbach to watch Xhaka very closely.
Arsenal, however, will have to face competition from their traditional rivals Tottenham for the signatures of the 23-year old.
Xhaka has made 120 appearances for Monchengladbach since joining them in 2012.
