Arsenal fans have been handed great news ahead of their Premier League opener against Arsenal on Sunday. Italian Journalist Emanuele Giulanelli has claimed that the French striker will join Arsenal on Sunday in a record 50 million euros deal. Giulanelli also went on to further claim that Karim Benzema will be handed the number 9 jersey which was previously occupied by Lucas Podolski.
However Giulanelli story credibility leaves much room for doubts after so many false transfer reports in the past one year. The Italian claimed Kostas Manolas and Eduardo Vargas would be both be Arsenal players but both deals never materialised. Karim Benzema has been linked with a move to Arsenal all summer transfer window and as things stand it seems very unlikely that the French striker will be completing a move to the Emirates soon.
Real Madrid are highly reluctant to sell Benzema and only a big money bid will be enough to tempt Real Madrid into selling the 27 year old. The French striker has been ruled out of the opening game of the La Liga season on with a leg injury which might fuel rumours that he might be heading to Arsenal before the end of the transfer window. Arsenal fans will be right to rubbish Giulanelli reports and keep an open mind on the outcome of the Benzema transfer saga.
Undoubtedly Karim Benzema is the missing piece in Arsenal’s jigsaw, even former Arsenal striker Thiery Henry has stated the importance of a player like Benzema to the team. He said “Olivier Giroud alone as a striker there, you can’t win the league, you need another type of striker.”I think Olivier Giroud is doing really well – he went on to score 14 goals in 18 games, that’s amazing – but sometimes you need a different type of striker and I think that, if they can get Benzema, suddenly they are a real title contender and also in the Champions League.”
