Howe not worried about Begovic

Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth manager, Eddie Howe highlighted that he is not worried about the form of goalkeeper Asmir Begovic as his Bournemouth side prepare to take on Champions League chasers Tottenham Hotspur.

The Bosnian goalkeeper arrived from Chelsea for £10 million in the summer, after falling behind Thibault Courtois in the blue’s pecking order.

In the last home match-a, a 2-2 draw against Newcastle-the 28-year old goalkeeper found himself coming under a lot of criticism after, misjudging a low Matt Ritchie shot and letting the ball slide under him.

Despite, this the former Stoke City goalkeeper will most likely keep the no.1 goalkeeping jersey.

Howe said: “I thought his performance against Leicester was excellent, the response he gave was very strong.

“He came for crosses, he dealt with the corners and the physical threat that Leicester threw at him very, very strongly.

“I was really, really pleased he made a great save from Mahrez in the first half as well when he went through so I was really pleased with his response.”

Howe also praised Mauricio Pochettino’s coaching style and how he has managed to develop players such as Harry Kane, who he inherited.

He said, “I think Tottenham have done well in the transfer market, but I think the biggest thing that they have done, aside from that is that they develop their own players very well.

“The players that Mauricio inherited have all improved and I think that’s the true test of a coach.”

Bournemouth are winless in their last three games, but have scored at least once in their last 10 premier league match.

They thought they had beaten Leicester City at the Kingpower Stadium in their last fixture, but a 96th minute free kick from Riyad Mahrez denied Howe’s side a vital away win.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will play their second match in four days when they line up against the reds at the Vitality Stadium, having been knocked out of the Champions League by Juventus on Wednesday night.

They were in the driving seat after drawing 2-2 in the first leg at Turin; however two goals in three minutes by Argentine due Gonzalo Higuain and Paolo Dybala, cancelled out Heung Son Min’s opener and sent Spurs crashing out of the Champions League.

Bournemouth are currently sitting in 12th place, but are only six points away from the relegation zone.

They have beaten Arsenal and Chelsea in the last couple of months, so they would surely want to add another premier league scalp to their collection.
