“I Will Be Man United’s Defender” Claims Star After Four Years Contract Signed
With Manchester United’s left back and England international, Luke Shaw likely to be sidelined all season-long due to a double-fracture injury , Louis van Gaal will be looking at having a versatile player who will fill in the position for the main time. And Ashley Young feels he is the right man for the position after having played the role during last week’s cup game. The 30 year-old is primarily a left winger, the same role he played during LVG’s debut year in charge of the Red Devils, but he stresses that his versatility can help him excel in any part of the left position.
Luke Shaw picked up the injury during United’s Champions League match against PSV, and he is set to be out for at least 6 months after 2 surgeries, and with his position vacant, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young are the only options available for the Netherlands’ tactician to choose from. With United set to play Wolfsburg next in their 2nd group stage match after returning to Champions League action, it is still unknown whom LVG will prefer to take the left-back role in such a crucial fixture.
Young hasn’t been a able to hold down a starting berth since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, and has only be restricted to cameo appearances since the new season started. Shaw’s injury might however afford him the opportunity to feature more in games this season as opposed to a substitution role. Young assured the coach of doing brilliantly well if given the chance. The former Aston Villa winger says,
“I felt comfortable and, as I said, if the manager picks me to play there I’ll do everything I need to do.”
