Ipswich Town Songs & Famous Chants: From Who’s the Pride of Anglia to I Am an Ipswich Fan
Teams from up and down the country have songs that get sung to them by their supporters, with Ipswich being no exception to the rule on that front. The Tractor Boys are serenaded with a mix of songs aimed specifically at the players on the pitch and those that are there more to try to mock their rivals. On that front, it’s fair to say that Norwich City tend to get it in the neck more than any other side, although there are plenty of teams that Ipswich supporters like to take the mickey out of if the opportunity presents itself, such is the nature of being a football fan in the modern era.
Supporters of Ipswich nowadays will often look to sing a mixture of songs from the club’s more glorious past as well as those from more recent times. The fact that they have been back in the top-flight before dropping back down and looking to get back up again has resulted in no shortage of songs being belted out by fans during both home and away matches. Some of them are a reworking of ditties that clubs all over the country will sing their own versions of, whilst others are what you might refer to more as unique ones aimed specifically at Ipswich Town.
Obviously, this list is far from exhaustive, so if you’ve been to see Ipswich play live or you’ve seen them on the television and you feel as though you’ve heard a different song that isn’t on the list, the likelihood is that you’re absolutely right and it simply escaped our attention. It may also have been added to the list of songs that the fans bring out after this piece has been published.
Who’s the Pride of Anglia
Anglia is a part of the country that engenders fierce loyalty in those that are from the area, with the football clubs of Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire all often aiming for the right to call themselves the pride of that part of the country. Although the derbies that Ipswich Town play against the likes of Cambridge United, Peterborough United and Colchester United have a degree of spice involved, there is no question that the main rivals of the Tractor Boys are Norwich City. The East Anglian derby is therefore fiercely contested and has been since 1902.
The song that is brought out more often than not by Ipswich supporters aims to both big up their own team whilst also being negative about Norwich, with the lyrics not usually being the ones that can be sung by those slightly younger. Here is how this one goes:
Who’s the pride of Anglia?
Ipswich, Ipswich!
Who’s the pride of Anglia?
Ipswich is our name,
Ipswich is our name, Ipswich is our name!
Who’s the pride of Anglia?
Ipswich is our name.
Who’s the shit of Anglia?
Norwich, Norwich!
Who’s the shit of Anglia?
Norwich is her name,
Norwich is her name, Norwich is her name!
Who’s the shit of Anglia?
Norwich is her name…
Hark Now Hear the Ipswich Sing
Clubs all around the United Kingdom, if not Europe itself, have songs that are only brought out during specific times of the year. In the case of Ipswich Supporters, when the Christmas period hits, they have their own version of part of Mary’s Boy Child by Boney M. It would obviously be nonsensical to sing it at any other time of the year than when everyone is decorating their tree and waiting for Father Christmas to come calling, but when that’s the case, it is a great one to pull out. There was also a time when Ipswich and Norwich used to play on Boxing Day with some regularity.
That is a part of the song, which goes as follows:
Hark now hear, the Ipswich Sing.
And Norwich ran away!
And we will fight, forever more.
Because of Boxing Day!
Merry Christmas
Another Christmas classic that has been adapted by numerous football club supporters up and down the land is Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin’ Stevens. You would be forgiven for thinking that that is a nice song brought out to offer some sense of camaraderie at that time of year, but the twist that Ipswich Town supporters gave it, particularly during the 2024-2025 season, soon put paid to that idea. Here is what they went for:
Snow is fallin’
All around us.
Ipswich playin’,
Havin’ fun.
’Tis the season,
Back to back promotions!
Merry Christmas,
Norwich scum!
(Repeat)
Allez, Allez, Allez
One of the main things that football supporters have always done is steal songs from other football fans, with Liverpool being the first club to be serenaded with Allez, Allez, Allez as a song before other teams soon began hearing it. In the case of Ipswich Town, the Tractor Boys obviously couldn’t sing about conquering Europe in the modern era, but they were able to give the tune their own unique Anglian twist that referenced the club’s illustrious past, singing the following:
Allez, allez, allez!
Allez, allez, allez!
Every Saturday we follow,
We cheer the boys in blue!
Champions of England,
Back in ’62!
Bobby conquered Europe,
And he won the FA Cup!
We support the Ipswich,
If we’re down or if we’re up!
Everywhere We Follow
This is very much one of those songs that fits into the category of being one that Ipswich supporters have their version of, but if you support a different club, then you may well have sung the same thing but with your own club put front and centre. It isn’t the most lyrically interesting song, to be perfectly honest, but it is one that has the ability to create a decent atmosphere when the supporters really get going.
Here is what you’ll hear from the Tractor Boys:
Ohhhh!
We love you,
We love you,
We love you!
And everywhere we follow,
We follow,
We follow!
Because we support the Ipswich,
The Ipswich,
The Ipswich!
And that’s the way we like it,
We like it,
We like it!
Woahhhhh,
Woahhhhh,
Woahhhhh!
By Far the Greatest Team
The fact that this site is named after this song probably gives you some indication of just how ubiquitous it is around the country. The fact that it is sung by the supporters of clubs playing in the likes of League Two and even non-league sides gives you some indication of just how daft it is, but it is a solid one for getting a good atmosphere going.
That is because everyone knows it and it is easy to learn for those that don’t, based around a tune everyone will recognise and with words that tell their own story.
For the avoidance of doubt, this is how the Ipswich Town version goes:
And it’s Ipswich Town!
Ipswich Town FC!
We’re by far the greatest team
The world has ever seen!
Na Na Na Na, Ipswich!
When The Beatles recorded Hey Jude, it is unlikely that any of them had a sense that the song would still be being sung decades later by football fans up and down the country. Even if you told them it would be, then Paul McCartney, John Lennon and the boys might have assumed that Liverpool or Everton from their home town had adopted it and made it their own. In reality, neither of the Merseyside clubs have supporters that sing it, but other clubs do, with one of them being Ipswich Town.
It isn’t the full song that the fans like to sing, but rather just the section towards the end of the song when the na na nas start. Here is what you will hear from them:
Na na na na na na nah,
Na na na nah,
Ipswich!
(Repeat)
I Am an Ipswich Fan

Anarchy by the Sex Pistols might not be a song that you automatically assume will be fun to sing at a football ground, but it is the tune to which I Am an Ipswich Fan is belted out during the occasional football match involving the Tractor Boys. The lyrics are reasonably simple, being aimed at offering support for the players and the team rather than anything else. Here is how it goes:
I am an Ipswich fan,
And I am East Anglian!
I know what I want and I know how to get it!
I wanna destroy!
‘Cos I wanna be ITFC!
