€25m Star To Replace Mertesacker At Arsenal

Is Another Arsenal Star Injured? Wenger Provides Latest Injury Update

The North London Derby ended in a draw on Sunday, with Harry Kane and Kieran Gibbs getting the goals for both sides as the spoils were shared after the tough encounter. With Arsenal’s right back, Hector Bellerin ruled out due to injury he picked up during the last League match, Wenger had to do with Mathieu Debuchy for the high-profile match. And after withdrawing him from the field of play with 12 minutes to go and replacing him with skipper Mikel Arteta, there were speculations concerning the Frenchman’s fitness, as many thought he had picked up a knock.

However, it happened that he was just too tired to continue after having also played full minutes during the week against Bayern after just returning to the lineup. Wenger dismissed any injury concerns regarding the former Newcastle defender, stating during the post match conference:

“Debuchy finished tired because he played against Bayern , and played today, and had not much competition, but he looks alright.”

The news will come as a great relief for the Arsenal team who are already without the services of Hector and still have 8 first team players on the injury sidelines.

The medical team at the Emirates outfit have come under scrutiny following the frequent injuries to the squad, and Wenger’s training methods have been criticized and labelled outdated. The general team’s fitness level has come under concern from national teams’ physio in recent times, with the Wales team doctor, Raymond Verheijen the latest to openly criticise Wenger after Ramsey picked up an injury weeks ago. However, Wenger is of the opinion that the injury problems is not as a result of the training methods:

“We adapt individually. It is always like that in every team, there is a collective part that everybody absorbs and the individual part is adapted to every person, considering their characteristics that intervene in a injury, how you sleep , how you eat, how much sleep you get, these are things that can influence an injury. It is a very sensitive subject and a very complicated one that we try to work out. On the other hand you have players who are injured because their body does not take it.”
