Jorge Mendes Brought In, £200,000-A-Week Set To Be Done

The transfer saga of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has remained arguably the longest-running this summer and the Spaniard is said to be frustrated that the 20-time Premier League champions are holding him down from joining Real Madrid.

With the transfer window only a week from closing, De Gea has now enlisted super agent Jorge Mendes to help him secure the move, and that is as per AS. The Spanish publication says Mendes has now assured De Gea the transfer will be completed but they will have to work swiftly to get it done before next Tuesday when the transfer window will be shut.

Few days ago, the were claims the Spanish giants will attempt a last ditch move to sign the Spain international shot-stopper this summer before throwing in the towel, and the move could now be done before the weekend.

De Gea has been left out of the squad in all of Manchester United fixtures this season and new signing Sergio Romero who has deputised in goal in the Spaniard’s absence has performed brilliantly so far. Van Gaal stated his decision to drop De Gea was because the rumours linking the goalie with a move to the Bernabeu has unsettled the Spaniard, and could consequently affect the team.

Los Blancos increased their interest in De Gea after parting ways with club legend and former captain Iker Casillas, who later joined Porto this summer. However, United have remained resolute against selling their prized goalkeeper.

De Gea was massively pivotal to the Red Devils’ top-four finish and consequently a Champions League qualification, keeping 11 clean sheets for Louis van Gaal’s side. He was also named in the Premier League team of the season.

Hence, the Real Madrid interest in the former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper is no surprise. De Gea signed for Manchester United during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign and during his first season, he had some poor performances but he picked himself up and soon established himself as United first choice goalie. His brilliant displays made him named in the Premier League team of the year last season.

Manchester United tackle Club Brugge later today in the second leg of a Champions League qualifier in Belgium, and De Gea is still expected to sit out the game.
