Jose Mourinho CONFIRMS Chelsea To COMPLETE Defender Signing
Jose Mourinho has admitted concern over the shortage in his squad, amid the exit of left-back Filipe Luis to Atletico Madrid, after less than a year at Chelsea, the Blues currently have only five senior first team defenders in their ranks: John Terry, Gary Cahill, Branislav Ivanovic, Cesar Azpilicueta and Kurt Zouma. And Mourinho has already confirmed they want to add another defender to their ranks ahead of the new season according to Sky Sports.
Unsurprisingly, Mourinho has confirmed that a new left-back will be brought to fill the void left by the departed Filipe Luis at the Bridge, and also to battle Azpilicueta for a place in the team. Chelsea have already had a bid of 20 million pounds rejected by Everton for John Stones, but they are yet to return with an improved offer for the England International.
The Blues are yet to strengthen their defense this summer having only signed striker Radamel Falcao on loan from Monaco and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic from Stoke City. Mourinho admitted he will have to play his defenders for the whole pre-season games. “Defenders I have to give 90minutes to because at this moment I have only five. Between the five we must have four on the pitch and so for the defenders I have to do it”.
The Portuguese boss nevertheless, is impressed with his lad’s performance so far in pre-season, saying these matches will help them prepare for the new campaign.
