Jose Mourinho Should Have Been Sacked – Claims Ex Chelsea Player

Former Chelsea player Craig Burley believes the Blues would have been better off giving Jose Mourinho the boot and replacing him with Jurgen Klopp, as per talkSPORT.

The reigning Premier League champions have endured a dismal start to the season, having won just two of their first eight games and already lost four, more than the total they lost throughout their title-winning campaign last term.

A number of off-field issues, including the ongoing internal problems regarding team doctor Eva Carneiro, has reportedly affected the team.

And Burley believes the Chelsea top brass have missed a trick in not dismissing Mourinho and bringing in Klopp ahead of Liverpool, with the German now in charge of the Reds following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers.

“I said a couple of weeks ago when this nonsense was going on [with Mourinho] that Chelsea should get rid of this guy now,” Burley said.

“Klopp was out there, he was going to Liverpool, and Chelsea should have gone and got him. That didn’t happen and clearly it wasn’t going to happen but that was my opinion of what they should have done. I would have gone and got him.

“I was not saying Mourinho should go because of a few bad results. I was basing it on the fact that Chelsea are a global brand and the way Mourinho was acting, behaving and speaking outside of the 90 minutes of football was dragging the club, the players and their image through the mud.

“Managers can get bad results, but Mourinho has to have a look at himself in terms of the way he handles things. It’s not everyone else’s fault all the time.”

Klopp’s appointment at Anfield have been met with praises from Liverpool supporters and such would have been the case among the Blues’ supporters had it been it was Chelsea that appointed the former Borussia Dortmund manager.

Chelsea face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday, and Mourinho will be hoping his side secure a convincing win in order to turn their season around and to save his own job as well.
