Klopp eyeing reunion as Liverpool are closing deal with Borussia Dortmund ace

Liverpool are on the brink of sealing a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s defender Neven Subotic if reports surfacing from Germany are to be taken seriously, with reports claiming Jurgen Klopp is keen to reunite with his former player while he was at the German club.

The defender has lost his place in the starting eleven and has fallen far down the pecking order behind Captain, Mats Hummels, Sokratis and even midfielder Sven Bender.

The 27-year-old was ruled out of the remainder of the season after diagnosis showed he had thrombosis in his arm, after having struggled with a back injury. The report from Germany looks like the Serbian has already played his last game for the German giants.

Jurgen Klopp signed Subotic from Mainz in 2008 and the duo are believed to have a fantastic relationship. Liverpool are looking for reinforcements at the back after they already signed Joel Matip from Schalke on a free transfer earlier in the season but are looking for another defensive signing after in-form defender Mamadou Sakho failed a routine drugs test.

The Frenchman faces a minimum of six months ban from football after he decided not to contest the test after earlier test had shown he tested positive for a fat burner, and has been provisionally suspended for 30 days.
The Serbian center back is under contract until 2018 but is eager to secure regular first team action either at Dortmund or elsewhere, he has made just 11 appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s side this summer.
