Latest update on Mourinho taking over Man Utd, he’d been given handshake with Woodward

Manchester Evening News are reporting that the biggest managerial saga in recent memory could be drawing to a close. They say that Jose Mourinho has finally been given the nod over rivals and current manager Louis Van Gaal and put pen to paper on a deal.

Following intense speculation in recent weeks, Jose Mourinho is believed to have finally signed a deal which will bring him to Old Trafford at the end of this season. It was believed that he’d been given a ‘golden handshake’ from club chairman, Ed Woodward, meaning that although a deal was not on paper, he would take over at the end of the year.

It has been a long season for Manchester United, who have struggled for form and consistency throughout the season. They were dumped out of Europe, twice, after losing in the Champions League and then the Europa cup.

They have a chance to finish the season with an FA Cup, providing they beat Crystal Palace at Wembley. They could also still finish 4th and make it to next seasons Champions League, but that is a big ask of them.
Louis Van Gaal has not done a terrible job this season, although the club have not looked like challenging Leicester or Tottenham. He has brought youngsters into the first team and if they win the FA Cup and finish fourth in the League, LVG might feel hard done by.
