Liverpool Could Make Double Swoop On Aston Villa

Liverpool is planning a double swoop on Villa Park by January according to the Mirror and the Express. Both news outlets have confirmed that the Anfield outfit are already lining up a bid to lure Aston Villa captain, Ron Vlaar and England midfielder Fabian Delph to the Merseyside.

Liverpool have been enduring a horrible run this season after the exit of the magical Luis Suarez and the injury that has side-lined the Uruguayan’s partner in crime Danny Sturridge. Aston Villa has not been faring better either, their miserable performances have seen them lose 6 games in the Premier League this term and scoring just a single goal in that period. However, Brendan Rodgers is still interested in hiring the captain of the Birmingham based club who at 29-years, has the required experience to help the team especially in their quest to replicate their exploits last season.

Ron Vlaar is a versatile defender whose combative defensive style is what many European clubs would wish to have within their ranks. He may not have the pace and technique of Dejan Lovren or Daniel Agger, his physical presence and consistency is exactly what the Brendan Rodger’s side need this season. The Dutchman can also provide the much needed leadership that is currently lacking in Liverpool’s frail defence. Delph on the other hand has been side-lined till the New Year due to injury, but he has displayed when fit, the kind of energy and combativeness that would be integral in the Red’s midfield.

While Rodgers will face little competition with the Fabian Delph deal, Manchester United is poised to race him to the finish line for the Ron Vlaar’s signature. The defender featured awesomely under the current boss at Old Trafford at the recently concluded World Cup in Brazil and it is expected that the excellent relationship existing between the player and Louis van Gaal will give the Old Trafford outfit the edge over their Merseyside rivals.

In fact it was surprising to hear that Brendan Rodgers was even considering a move for the Dutchman because his move to Manchester United is all but concluded and several reports have even stated that Louis van Gaal is only waiting till January to reunite with his countryman. With the frail status of the Red Devil’s defence, even if the rumours linking him to Old Trafford were spurious, the Old Trafford boss will leave no stones on turned and the last thing he would do is to watch one of his arch-rivals beat him to the signature of a defender that he knows too well.

No matter how dire Liverpool’s defence problems are, it could only come behind what the Red Devils are facing because at the moment, none of the Red Devil’s centre-defenders are available.

However, if Brendan Rodgers by some magical wand is able to beat his Manchester rival to the signature of Vlaar, both he and Delph will not bring any serious excitement to the Anfield fans but then they would only cost the club a small fee as their contracts will run out by the end of the season.
