Liverpool Makes OFFICIAL Announcement On Chelsea Target, Deal Done & Dusted

Christian Benteke has been confirmed as Liverpool’s new No.9. Benteke will be looking to follow in the footsteps of some Liverpools’ finest strikers after being handed the No 9 shirt at the club. A day after serving early notice of his potent finishing ability with an incredible volley against Swindon Town, the Belgium International will now wear the Iconic number 9 jersey for the club.

The Belgian becomes the Reds’ seventh summer signing after completing a transfer from Aston Villa. And the 24-year-old has been given a confidence boost ahead of the new season after that confirmation as the club’s new number 9 for the new season.

Some of the club’s greatest players, including the likes of Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler have worn the squad number, which became available following the departure of Rickie Lambert to West Bromwich. He was hailed by the club manager Rogers after his maiden strike for the club on Sunday.

“Christian’s goal was incredible, whether it was a pre-season friendly or in a league or cup game. It was wonderful technique from the big guy,” Rogers told Liverpool’s website.

In his three seasons he has spent in English Football, he struck 42 goals in 89 league appearances to establish himself a reputation as one of the most feared forward in the game.

Now he takes up a number that has been worn with distinction for Liverpool by the likes Ian St John, Fernando Torres and Robbie Fowler. Rogers said Benteke’s ability will compliment Liverpool’s style of play and that his goals record is comparable with the best players around.
