Liverpool No. 1 Target to Leave Bundesliga, Encouraged to Sign Today by Former Real Madrid Star

Former Schalke and Real Madrid defender Christoph Metzelder has urged Joel Matip to sign for Liverpool. Metzelder believes that a move to Anfield is the right move for the 24-year-old.

“Joel is free. If the interest is from England and he wants to have an experience abroad, then Liverpool is a super destination for him. Jurgen knows he can work very well with him. For Joel it would be an easier entry into a new country and a new environment.”

Schalke have also declared their interest to keep Matip amid rumors linking the player with a move to Anfield.

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt said: “We have agreed to an appointment [with the player’s advisor] which will take place soon. I remain in good spirits and I hope that we can convince Joel to stay at Schalke.”
