Liverpool submitted bid for Barcelona star to secure Klopp’s 4th signing
Liverpool’s defender Mamadou Sakho has been a constant feature in recent news following the defenders alleged use of a banned substance. Mamadou Sakho has attested to the fact that he has been in fact using the fat burning drug unaware that it contained any banned substance.
The Liverpool defender who has since returned a positive test for a fat banning substance following the second league Europa league encounter with Manchester United has chosen not to have his B sample tested.
As such Mamadou Sakho will have to wait and see what punishment comes his way. While Mamadou Sakho’s punishment is yet to be pronounced it is in order to remember that team mate Kolo Toure received a six months ban while at Manchester City for testing positive for a banned substance in diet pills.
It is with this awareness of a punishment in the waiting and possibly a lengthy unavailability that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has formerly tabled an offer for one time Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen, who is now with the Spanish giants Barcelona.
Vermaelen, the 30 years old Belgium International joined Barcelona from Arsenal in a deal which saw Barcelona part with about 15 million pounds. Reports coming through indicate that the defender’s stay at the Nou Camp has been ridden with injuries and as such Barcelona are willing to accept offers for Vermaelen.
Liverpool are willing to offer Barcelona about 7.8 million pounds and nothing above that in their bid to have Thomas Vermaelen at Anfield next season as a potential replacement for the would be banned Mamadou Sakho. If Liverpool is lucky to secure this move, then Thomas Vermaelen will be a perfect match having had an experience at the Premier League during his stay at Arsenal.
