Liverpool’s France international centre back, Mamadou Sakho, is allegedly under investigation by UEFA following reports of a failed drugs test by the France International. According to a publication by the France based outlet RMC Sport, Mamadou Sakho is said to have been on a ‘fat -burning’ drug that has reportedly broken stringent regulations.
Sakho who is now under UEFA’S investigation will remain suspended and therefore unavailable for matches until he gets clearance from both UEFA and Liverpool’s officials. This news and the implications there-of, come as a major setback to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Mamadou Sakho’s brilliant run of form in recent matches has given Liverpool the much needed impetus that has seen the Anfield club record major wins especially recently when they overcame Borrusia Dortmund in the second league at Anfield to progress to the Europa League semifinals.
Sakho who is considered by his current club, Liverpool, an ethical professional is keen to prove his innocence and that his alleged use of the fat-burning drug was just an accident. Besides, Sakho is ready to prove that he was unaware that the drug was banned and was using the fat burning drug in good faith.
Meanwhile, UEFA has launched an investigation into the potential violation of anti-doping rules by the Liverpool centre back, as revealed in the UEFA official statement to the Merseyside club.
While Mamadou Sakho is not subject to any playing suspension as revealed in the UEFA official statement released to Liverpool Fc, Liverpool in consultation with the player have agreed while the investigation is ongoing Sakho will not be available for selection for matches.
As such, Sakho is set to miss out of the encounter between Liverpool and Newcastle on Saturday despite having had scored in their 4-0 thrashing of rivals Everton.
