Liverpool are looking to capitalise on the fruitless talks between Lyon and Alexandre Lacazette, to make a ”stunning summer swoop” for the player, according to the Express.
According to reports in France, talks with Lacazette over a new contract have stalled and the striker is now considering making a transfer request. Lyon’s inability to find an agreement with their star man has prompted speculation of a summer transfer for the player
Lacazette, 24, had his best season with the Ligue 1 outfit last term scoring 27 league goals in 31 appearances which helped Les Gones finish second behind champions, Paris Saint Germain. The Independent claim Liverpool have set aside a bid of £28 million for the talented forward.
Arsenal, Manchester United and PSG are also linked to Lacazette as the Merseysiders look to other alternatives after “baulking at Aston Villa’s asking price for Chris Benteke (Metro).
Brendan Rodgers is reportedly determined to meet the demands of Lyon for the coveted goal poacher whose contract with the French giants runs out in 2018.
Le10 Sport, have revealed that Lyon are willing to their youth graduate leave the Stade de Gerland this summer if Liverpool can pay their £21m(sic) asking price, and if they (Lyon) find a suitable replacement (90 Min)
Alexandre Lacazette finished as Ligue 1 top goal scorer last season, and also won the Ligue 1 player of the year.
Should Lacazette sign for the Reds, he will be expected to spearhead the attack, as Mario Balotelli has not hit the consistency stage since signing and Daniel Sturridge is prone to injury.
New signing Danny Ings will therefore have to settle for the bench role unless Rodgers opts for a 4-1-3-2 or 4-4-2 formation. Apart from Ings, Liverpool have also recruited five other players this summer to help propel the club to a top four finish and possibly the Premier League title next season.
