Liverpool To Get Update On Mamadou Sakho & Dejan Lovren Injuries

Liverpool will later today know the extent of injury to duo Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren. Both players will be accessed today when the team resumes its training after some players came back from international duties.

Sakho got injured a fortnight ago while on training with the club in preparation for the match day two of the Uefa champions league match against Swiss side FC Basel. Though the injury will look suspicious to most Liverpool supporters least for the defender’s behaviour in recent week where he was seen storming out of Liverpool dressing room after their 1-1 draw with Everton and many have questioned the timing of his injury. Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce has however quelled those thought by claiming the player was actually injured.

Pearce said: I know the timing of Sakhos injury looked suspicious considering he had stormed off just a few days earlier. But he was also left out of the France squad for their internationals and theres no way they would agreed to overlook him if he was fit.

Dejan Lovren will be the latest injury concern for Brendan Rodgers side after the former Southampton defender withdrew from Crotia’s Euro 2016 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Azerbaijan. The 25-year-old had to leave training session with his national side after feeling pains in his abdominal wall and scans have revealed the player has a tear in his abdominal region.

Both player will be back at the club today after the international break and will be accessed by club’s medics. Sakho was initially ruled out for 2-3week but further assessement has to be taking to see how well the player has progressed.

Lovren joined Liverpool in July 2014 in a fee of around £20m from Southampton becoming the third player after Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert to join Liverpool in the same transfer window. He has made seven appearance for Liverpool in all competition so far this season. Though he has come under criticism for his performance which many believed has not justified the huge amount the club paid to sign him.

Manager Brendan Rodger will hope the result of the test does not show any major injury as this could be one many too much for the club. Liverpool have seen their players return from international duties in recent months with injuries.

Daniel Sturrige picked up a thigh injury with England in September, Joe Allen also got injured while on duty for Wales while Emre Can picked up an ankle injury in Germany’s U21 win against Romania.

This players will be in race against time to be fit to make the trip to London to take on Queens Park Rangers on Sunday. Brendan Rodgers will hope atleast one of this defenders will be fit as Liverpool will only have to two fit Central defenders in Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure going into the QPR game if non of Sakho and Lovren returns.

Liverpool have not gotten their season off to a flying start and have found it difficult winning games. They have only won three and drawn one of their first seven league games so far. They currently sits ninth on the log with 10points, same point as West Ham, Arsenal and Aston Villa who occupy 7th, 8th and 10th position respectively. They will need to start getting points starting with the game on Sunday if they are to mount a serious title challenge as they did last season.
