Liverpool Working Hard To Sign €40m Rated Star To Replace Suarez But Lucas Could Leave
Liverpool are still in search of a replacement for their departed PFA player of the year and Epl golden boot winner Luis Suarez and have identified former Real Madrid and now Napoli of Italy hitman Gonzalo Higuain as the man to take up the role Suarez left behind.
Liverpool have tried to sign the prolific Argentine in the summer and were rebuffed by Napoli but there are plans to relaunch a bid for the 26-year-old Argentine striker in the January transfer window.
Luis Suarez left Liverpool after what would be a stellar season for both player and club as he won the PFA player of the year and Epl golden boot with 31 league goals en rout helping his club to finish second on the log and qualifying for the money spinning Uefa champions league- their first in five years.
He moved to FC Barcelona in the summer in a deal worth well over £75m after a controversial world cup incidence saw him banned for four months by world football governing body FIFA.
Liverpool brought in strikers Rickie Lambert from Southampton, Lazar Markovic from Benfica and Mario Balotelli from AC Milan but non has yet made any meaningful impact in the team. With the current injury to Daniel Sturrige, Liverpool are yet to find their mark upfront scoring just ten league goals in seven games so far this season.
And Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers will looks to start finding solutions to his front line come January and has looked to Gonzalo Higuain as the man to get the goals for him.
Higuain join Napoli from Madrid in the summer of 2013 in a deal worth €40m and has established himself as the club’s frontman scoring 17 times in 32 league games for the Naples side in his first season. Though he is yet to register a goal in his five league appearances so far this season.
Liverpool is however set to make an offer which will include midfielder Lucas Leiva plus £22m in cash for the striker.
Its believed the offer will be enough to tempt Napoli to selling their star striker as the inclusion of Lucas Leiva is seen as a bait that will entice Rafa Benitez as the Spanish coach is said to still have interest in reuniting with the player he brought to Liverpool.
Liverpool see the Brazilian midfielder as surplus to requirement at Anfield under Brendan Rodgers. He is hardly involved in games recently. Brendan Rodgers prefers the partnership of Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerard in central midfield and the recent acquisition of Adam Lallana means he is way off the pecking order at Anfield.
It will be seen if the player plus cash offer is the one Napoli will entertain. If the deals goes through, it will be a big coup by Liverpool as Higuain will guaranteed them goals.
At 26, he still has some good football years left in him. He is also well experienced in European games owing to his days at Real Madrid and he will bring his wealth of experience to the Uefa champions league games for Liverpool.
Liverpool need a striker like him if they hope to reach or surpass the feet they achieved last season as the likes of Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert looks like they forgot their scoring boots from wherever they are coming from.
