Man United directors already approached Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez
The Red Devils are looking to snatch Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez. The Red Devils have reportedly been looking to axe Memphis Depay for a more productive Riyad Mahrez.
It will be interesting to see how this one boils down. Leicester are certainly in the Champions league yet whether United will feature in the competition remains to be seen. The Red Devils blew their control of clinching the top-four spot after a dramatic 3-2 defeat to West Ham.
Their chances are now 18% of qualifying. One more slip against Bournemouth means Europa league it is AGAIN. This begs the question will Mahrez leave Champions to play with a team struggling to even get in the top four? Especially because no one knows what the future hold for Leicester, they may just surprise us all again by actually challenging for the title next term.
Despite what is happening on the field, United are already looking to make plans early on for next season. They have identified Mahrez as the kind of player that can influence attacking fluidity-something which United often lacked this campaign.
France Football reported that the Red Devils will look to flex their financial muscles this window to prevent a repeat of this campaign. They are looking to bring in top starts and give them larger salaries to persuade them to join Old Trafford.
Manchester United CEO has wasted no time as they are already perusing Mahrez amongst other names. France Football continued to say “in constant reconstruction since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure’, United have already been in touch with the player himself, and did so very recently.
The deal won’t be easy should it happen as the player has expressed his desire to continue to play the Foxes. Furthermore, Ranieri has been tasked with convincing players to stay for at least one more year to see where things go.
United used their recent in counter with the Foxes to do some transfer business. The Red Devils directors were blatantly honest to the player about their desire to bring him to Old Trafford.
Quite how, where and when the alleged chat happened is not explained, and Ed Woodward, or anyone else from United, hanging around the Leicester City players may have appeared a little suspect.
Unfortunately for Manchester United, they are not alone in their pursuit. The long list of admirers is one that goes to elaborate how good Mahrez is. Big names such as Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Barcelona, are all also keeping an eye on the Algerian winger.
Despite their uncertainty of Champions League football; United will hope their world renounced reputation will help attract the likes of Mahrez. If history fails they could always dig a little deeper into their pockets.
