Man United Songs and Famous Chants: Form Glory Glory to This Is The One
Manchester United are one of the biggest and most successful football clubs in the history of the English game.
When they have been successful in the past, the club’s passionate fans have backed them loyally, whether that be by chants or songs about their favourite players. Here are some of United’s most popular songs or chants:
Glory Glory Man United
The song is one of the most famous United songs. It was released in 1983 ahead of the FA Cup final. The song was written by Frank Renshaw, who was a member of the popular band Herman Hermits, who had hits during the 1970s and 1980s.
However, the tune is taken from the popular American folk song “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,”. The song gained prominence in the American Civil War.
The song has been popular since its release, and in 2007, it was rereleased by “The World Red Army”. Since then, it has been the official United anthem at Old Trafford.
In the 1990s, opposition fans used the tune and changed the words to “Who the f are Man United?” as an insult to the Red Devils.
Lyrics
Glory glory Man united,

U-N-I-T-E-D
This chant is generally used at Old Trafford to lift the team if they are in need of a goal or hanging on to a lead. Other club’s fans chant this, but it’s most prevalent at Manchester United.
The song’s lyrics are: “U-N-I-T-E-D, United are the team for me, With a knick-knack paddy-whack, Give a dog a bone, Why don’t City f*** off home, We Love United We Do.”
This is one of the more generic songs, which is sung by most sets of fans up and down England. It is nowhere near as unique as some of the songs on our list and is generally sung when the team is performing well on the pitch.
You Are My Solskjaer
The song is a tribute to baby assassin Norwegian forward Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his playing days. The song returned when Solskjaer returned to United as head coach and experienced some success with the Red Devils.
The song is sung to the tune of ‘You Are My Sunshine’, an old country music song made famous by American singing star Johnny Cash.
Lyrics
“You are my Solskjaer, My Ole Solskjaer, You make me happy, When skies are grey, Oh Alan Shearer, Was f*cking dearer, So please don’t take, My Solskjaer away…”
Take Me Home
This is another United song borrowed from an American song. In this case, the tune was taken from John Denver’s 1971 hit “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”
The United fans have adapted the song, so they sing, “Take me home, United Road, To the place, I belong, To Old Trafford, to see United, Take me home, United Road”.
The song is very popular among the fans at Old Trafford and is sung at virtually every United home game.
This Is The One
The Stone Roses hit is played before the Red Devils come out at Old Trafford. Reportedly, the reason for this particular song being played is that when he became United captain in 2005, Gary Neville chose the song, and it has been played ever since.
However, the song is believed to have been popular amongst the club’s fans for a while before it became the team’s walkout music. “This is the one, this is the one, On the 20th of May, This is the one, A trip to paradise, This is the one!”
20 Times
The song celebrates Manchester United’s historic achievements by relating the number of times the team has finished as English champions. It goes, “Twenty times, twenty times, Man United, Twenty times, twenty times, I say, Twenty times, twenty times, Man United, Playing football the Matt Busby way.”
It is a common song at Old Trafford, but it may not be sung as often as some of the other songs on our list.
