Man Utd board reportedly decided: This man will become new manager
The transfer saga of the year does not involve players this time but managers. Whilst Chelsea and Manchester City both confirmed early who will manage their teams next season, Manchester United still seem to be going through a power struggle about who will turn things around next season.
Conte will take over at Chelsea, Guardiola will start his English adventure at Manchester City and Wenger looks set for another season at Arsenal. Whilst all the other teams seem secure, Manchester United’s managerial crisis continues and another name has been mentioned. Laurent Blanc.
Louis Van Gaal’s days seem to be numbered, with United having a less than perfect season and likely to finish outside of the Champion League places yet again. They have brought through a lot of younger players and given them experience, but it’s not enough for a club that enjoyed so much success under Sir Alex Ferguson.
It is thought that Mourinho had a ‘golden handshake’ from Ed Woodward about taking over at the end of the season but could Manchester United be reneging on the deal?
Latest reports suggest that United are scared of losing long-term managerial prospect Ryan Giggs if they hire Mourinho, because he will want to bring in his own staff. Ryan Giggs could move elsewhere such as Celtic and United could lose him for good.
Step forward Laurent Blanc. The PSG manager has been incredibly successful domestically, destroying anything the French league has thrown at him. He hasn’t won anything in Europe yet, but that hasn’t put off the Manchester United board who know that he played with Giggs at United and the pair formed a bond. Should United go for Blanc or Mourinho? Or maybe even someone else?
