Man Utd Predicted Line up vs. Stoke City & Injury News – Fellaini, Mata and Varela in Starting XI

Man Utd will face Stoke City at Old Trafford in the Premier League encounter on Tuesday night. United received a lot of criticism following their defeat to Southampton in their last league game.

However, they bounced back with an impressive 3-1 FA Cup win over Derby County, and Louis Van Gaal will be hoping for more of the same from his squad.

Meanwhile, Stoke City are without a win in their last two league games. They also got dumped out of League Cup and FA Cup during the past week.

The Potters emerged victorious 2-0 in the reverse fixture on Boxing Day.

Team News:

Michael Carrick made a comeback from his injury in the FA Cup win over Derby County. He could be involved in the game on Tuesday night.

“He could only play 20 minutes against Derby, and I wanted to give him that 20 minutes because we need him playing regularly again,” said van Gaal. “He did very well, and I have no complaints.”

The Red Devils could also have Bastian Schweinsteiger back from knee trouble, and Matteo Darmian is still recovering from a heavy collision he suffered against Southampton.

Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo are still out, while Phil Jones is closing towards a comeback.

Predicted Lineup [4-2-3-1]

Goalkeeper:

David De Gea is an automatic choice in this department.

Defence:

Van Gaal will be forced to play youngsters Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Guillermo Varela as full-backs in the back-four. Daley Blind and Chris Smalling will form the centre-back pairing.

Midfield:

Van Gaal will have a choice to make between Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick. We suspect he will pair Fellaini with Morgan Schneiderlin at the centre of midfield as Carrick has just returned recovered from an injury.

Juan Mata impressed in the win over Derby County, and he will play in the attacking midfield position.

Attack:

Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard will feature on the flanks while Wayne Rooney will lead the lines for the Red Devils.

Predicted Lineup: De Gea, Borthwick-Jackson, Blind, Smalling, Varela, Schneiderlin, Fellaini, Mata, Martial, Lingard, Rooney
