Manchester City Star Suffers Injury Blow On National Duty

Manchester City forward, Stevan Jovetic may have suffered yet another injury as he was seen limping out of the field during Montenegro’s goalless draw against Liechtenstein in the Euro 2016 qualifier on Thursday night. Jovetic, who barely featured for City last season, has found some form this season in an attack line that has Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko leading the park. His form probably forced the Manuel Pellegrini side to make a loan deal which saw another prolific attacker, Alvaro Negredo sent out to Valencia this summer. The 24-year-old player only recently returned to fitness from a hamstring problem which has put him on the sidelines for quite a number of Manchester City games and now seems to have suffered another injury.

This would represent a blow for Pellegrini and his team as they look to pile some pressure on the table toppers, Chelsea for this season’s English Premier League title defence. Manchester City sits on the 2nd spot on the EPL table. Jovetic was substituted in the 74th minute in the Euro 2016 qualifier on Thursday and he was observed to have limped out. It is not clear whether the forward would be available for City’s next matches after the international break as no official statements from both Montenegro and Manchester City have been released but Manuel Pellegrini would certainly be concerned about this. The player who has scored twice this season may hold key to the Citizens’ performance this season as the blistering form he started the season on, is capable of elevating the Billionaires-owned Manchester City squad this term.

Jovetic was signed from Fiorentina last season by Pellegrini in a ÂŁ25m deal but the player found it hard to break into the star-studded Manchester City side due to injury and the sound performances by Dzeko and Aguero in their title winning campaign. The star-studded Manchester City were Champions last term taking advantage of a Liverpool slip-up and look set to defend their title this term by the acquisition of Bacary Sagna, who arrived on a free from Arsenal, Fernando and Eliaquim Mangala from Porto and Frank Lampard who signed on a short-term loan from New York City FC. And this season, their title defence had suffered a shocking setback in their loss to Stoke City at the Etihad before the international break. Before then, they have had two victories, beating Liverpool by 3-1 and Newcastle by 2-0.

Without Jovetic, the City side is blessed with Edin Dzeko, the Bosnian talismanic forward and Sergio Aguero, the Argentinean. Other than these attackers, the midfield talents of David Silva, Yaya Toure, former Gunner Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas, would make it hard for any team to overcome them in the English Premier League and in Europe. Therefore, Jovetic’s second injury this season may be a major set-back for the player, but it only is a minor blow for the Manchester City side.

Manchester City trail Chelsea and would look to improve on their title defence by facing Tottenham Hotspurs, West Ham United and rivals Manchester United in their next three fixtures of the English Premier League.
