Manchester City Wants Another Arsenal Player – Why Wenger Must Not Sell

Manchester City are reportedly eying a £30m bid for want-away Arsenal star Mesut Ozil. The former Real Madrid man was ruled out for about 3 months after a scan revealed the extent of his knee injury.

Since joining the Gunners last summer, the £42m man has failed to impress and the Daily Mail have claimed that Ozil is unhappy at the emirates and will consider an offer from either of Bayern Munich or Premiership big spenders Manchester City by January. The Daily Mail have also stated that funds received from the sales of Ozil will be used to complete the transfer of fellow German, Sami Khedira who is expected to bring in more physical presence at the heart of Arsenal’s midfield.

Manchester City over the years have lured about four players from their North London rivals including Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna, Samir Nasri and KoloToure and coupled with the fact that the Premier League champions have enough financial muscle to test the resolve of the Gunners, anything can be expected.

However, we can only hope that Arsene Wenger is not giving this issue a second thought giving the problems that Arsenal faced when they were famed for the sales of many of their prized players at the time when they needed them the most. Arsene Wenger sanctioned the sales of Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song and Robin van Persie amongst others and now that the Gunners have started to rebuild their squad which has started paying off with the FA cup they won last season which was their first silverware in about 9 years, such should not be repeated.

More so, the North London outfit have passed on an opportunity to re-hire the services of erstwhile captain Cesc Fabregas who fell out favour at Barcelona and has since moved over to Chelsea. So if Arsenal transfers Mesut Ozil, they’d be left with Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby and Santi Cazorla, even if they eventually bring in Sami Khedira, they’ll have just 5 midfielders apart from the more attack minded ones like Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, Thomas Rosicky and Joel Campbell,so just how can 5 of them manage with the number games that the Gunners will be involved in this season.

For those who claim to be fed up of the German’s dip in form, it is fair to say that injuries and suspensions played a big part in this deterioration becauseif you saw how Oil played for his country and Real Madrid earlier on in his career, you’d realise the amount of talent that Wenger will be throwing to the wind if he allows City anywhere close to the midfielder.

Finally, Ozil needs to step up his game, he has shown flashes of brilliance at Arsenal, but they have come too sparingly and this lukewarm performance can no longer be ignored.
