Manchester United AGREED Deal For 6ft 3″ CB, Then Things Got MESSY

Despite recently capturing some of football’s finest midfielders, Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal still appears to be dismayed at the loss of the opportunity to sign a big prospect and arguably the world’s tallest defender aged under 20, Frenchman Dayot Upamecano.

The 6ft 3″ defender, aged 16, possesses a stature and technicality uncommon to his age group. Having spent a while at FC Valenciennes, he had in recent times been linked with moves to Bayern Munich and Manchester United, as well as a number of other European clubsides.

Given Upamecano’s bright prospect, Bayern Munich attempted to snatch a deal for the player, but to no avail. Of all the clubs jostling for his services, United, at some point, looked to be ahead and even almost reached an agreement, as reports state that they had in fact tabled a bid for the player in the region of €500,000, which had been accepted. However, last-minute concerns from the player’s family prevented the deal from being finalized.

Due to concerns over playing time, finance and family, the player eventually settled for a move to German side Red Bull Salzburg, where he put pen to paper on a 3-year contract.
