Manchester United have finally decided to let striker James Wilson leave Old Trafford in order to join Celtic on a loan basis, with the deal now expected to go through in the New Year, as per the Daily Mail.
Wilson has spent his whole footballing career with the Mancunian Reds, joining the club back in 2003 as a schoolboy.
The 19-year old was in and out of the first-team under Louis van Gaal last term as he had to settle for the role of a fourth-choice striker behind Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao, meaning he only played 13 times last season.
At the beginning of the summer, there were talks that Wilson will be farmed out on loan in order for the young striker to gain adequate game-time and more experience, and he came close to leaving Old Trafford during the summer but all deals broke down despite not being in van Gaal’s plans for the season.
Moreover, van Gaal claimed he was considering loaning Wilson to a Championship outfit, meaning he would be able to move outside the two transfer windows and he could be recalled anytime, according to United’s official website.
The Mail is now saying Celtic were eager to sign Wilson in the summer but the move did not materialise because the England youth had not penned a new deal with Manchester United.
Now it appears Wilson’s signing of fresh terms at Old Trafford has paved the way for the Scottish giants to swoop for the Englishman in January.
Next up for United is a tricky trip away to Goodison Park where Everton will be lying in wait for Louis van Gaal’s men, who would also be looking to bounce back from their last 3-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates stadium.
