Manchester United Could Have Sign Gareth Bale – David Moyes

Erstwhile Manchester United coach, David Moyes has come out to admit he was keen of bringing the Welsh player to Old Trafford during his short stint with the Red Devils. However, Bale rather chose to go ply his trade at Spain, with Moyes joining him at the La Liga the next season to coach Real Sociedad.

Moyes, whom Ferguson saw as a good replacement at the United dugout failed to produce results, and was shown the exit door after just a season which saw United finish in the worst position in many seasons. He however helped Sociedad to an enviable 12th position in the La Liga last season, and with rumours linking the 25 year-old winger to United, Moyes reminisced,

“Firstly, Gareth Bale is an outstanding player. I was desperate to take him to Manchester United from Tottenham, but couldn’t quite get him. He had his heart set on going to Real Madrid. He was very much on my radar as soon as I went to United. He can score goals, can make goals, he’s got speed, he’s physically capable, and I think next year he will be a big star in Madrid.”

Bale in United 2 summers ago might have made Moyes remain coach till date, as there are no possibilities that they would have ended up in 7th position after the 2013/2014 season ended. The left-back turned winger single-handedly guided Tottenham to a top 4 finish and a debut Champions League appearance.

His pace and ability to score goals made him the biggest transfer-target back then, and he eventually got signed for a record fee, the highest so far. And with rumours saying he is unsettled at the Bernabeu, United are said to be monitoring the situation and ready to break the bank for his services if declared available for transfer.
