Manchester United Injury Update – Rooney, Schweinsteiger & Carrick

The international break has not done Manchester United any good as two of their key players in Bastian Schweinsteiger and Wayne Rooney are currently injured.

Schweinsteiger, 31, could miss United’s next Premier League game against Everton after the international break after picking up an injury during Germany’s last training session ahead of the defeat to the Republic of Ireland on Thursday.

Ahead of the shock loss, the official Twitter account for German national team confirmed the news.

And the above tweet translates to: “Bastian Schweinsteiger falls out with a hardening at a left adductor (drawn in the final training session).”

However, it is still unclear whether Schweinsteiger will be ready for Germany’s last qualifier in Leipzig on Sunday and boss Joachim Low says the seriousness of the injury will soon be revealed.

“For Schweinsteiger I will need to see,” he told reporters.

“The medical staff said two or three days’ rest.”

Meanwhile, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney have also withdrawn from the England squad for the final Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania on Monday after they also missed last night’s 2-0 win over Estonia.

Carrick is down with a groin problem, while Rooney – recipient of a Golden Boot by Sir Bobby Charlton at Wembley to mark his achievement as England’s record goalscorer, is struggling with an ankle injury.

“Michael trained fully in quite an intense training session on Wednesday but he had a re-occurrence of a feeling that he sometimes gets in his groin – a slight tightening of the groin – and we didn’t want to take any chances in what was a fairly light session before the game,” England boss Roy Hodgson said on Thursday.

“We have been waiting for Wayne’s ankle injury to settle down,” Hodgson added when asked about Rooney’s fitness.

“It’s settling down very well and we certainly don’t want to risk him because he has lots of important Manchester United games ahead. I would be devastated if we pushed him out there and something happened to increase the problem he has with his ankle.”
