Manchester United KEEN ON Lewandowski, Bayern Has His Replacement

Several names have been linked to Manchester United as likely candidates to fill the centre-forward position and complement Wayne Rooney in attack. Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller, Gareth Bale of Real Madrid, Sau Paulo’s Alexandre Pato are just some of those names but the Telegraph’s Mark Ogden has a different view.

As per Ogden [per Metro], manager Louis van Gaal’s dream summer signing would be Bayern Munich’s striker Robert Lewandowski. The journalist believes the Polish forward would be the ideal marquee signing for the Dutch boss.

Lewandowski is one of Europe’s deadly strikers and also an important member of the Bayern team. Hence, it appears unlikely that a move would happen this summer. But van Gaal still retains the hope that he can lure the 27-year old to Old Trafford during his time in charge of the Red Devils.

Metro say Ogden revealed the news to radio station host Pilip de Brun, who then tweeted the news. Pilip de Brûn [@Malachians] tweeted: “Talking to MOgdenTelegraph right now, said he was told LVG’s dream striker signing is Lewandowski @Beyondthe Pitch @SiriusXMFC.”

The former Borussia Dortmund striker was Bayern’s joint top scorer last term and he scored in successive Bundesliga games against Hoffenheim and Hamburg so far this season. Lewandowski becomes the third player from the Bundesliga giants to be linked to Manchester United after the Mancunian Reds signed Bastian Schweinsteiger earlier on in the summer.

Arjen Robben also surprisingly emerged as a target for Louis van Gaal on Saturday, having been linked with Muller earlier. The 25-year old German ace is reportedly on the verge of penning a new deal at the Allianz Arena which will increase his £110,000 a week wages and this will put to bed rumours of a Man United move.

After scoring twice in the Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, Muller dismissed the reports linking him to United, saying he has not heard from van Gaal.

“Louis van Gaal hasn’t called me, so I don’t know about any move,” Muller said.

With Bayern Munich completing the signing of Kingsley Coman from Juventus, I personally believe United have a good chance of signing Lewandowski if the right offer is made.
