Manchester United On The VERGE Of Signing £12.6m Rated La Liga Star

David De Gea to Real Madrid has been the worst kept secret in this summer’s transfer window. United started preparing for what was inevitable during last season itself , when they signed Victor Valdes on a free. However, many feel that as good a keeper Valdes is, he might be past his prime and United might need someone else to man the posts.

Step in Jan Oblak. The young Slovenian star has only been at Atletico Madrid for a single season and spent the majority of it on the bench. However, reports have emerged that it won’t discourage United from making an offer for the 22 year old if and when De Gea leaves.

Oblak was part of the Benfica team that reached the Europa League final in 2013/14 and also performed admirably against cross-town rivals Real when granted an opportunity in the Champions League last season. He kept seven clean sheets in only 11 appearances last season in the league and was beaten just six times.

He still has five years left on his current deal, and this, coupled with the fact that Atletico paid £12.6 million for his services last summer, means that he won’t come cheap. However, he is an exceptional talent and if he does sign for United, he will have a lot to do to replace United’s player of the year for the past two seasons.
