Manchester United Suffer Massive Injury Blow, Striker To Miss Swansea Clash
Manchester United travel to the Liberty stadium on Sunday to face high-flying Garry Monk’s Swansea City in their third Premier League game of the season, and boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that there will be one notable absence from the team.
Belgian youngster Adnan Januzaj will miss the game against the Swans having suffered an injury in midweek, van Gaal claimed.
Januzaj, 20, has been recently linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford, with Everton, Sunderland, Southampton and Borussia Dortmund looking to sign him. Van Gaal gaved him a chance by handing him a start against Aston Villa in the team’s second Premier League of the season. The youngster repaid the faith shown in him by grabbing the solitary goal that helped United beat the Midlanders.
Since then, Januzaj has been massively involved, featuring in last weekend’s 0-0 draw against Newcastle United and last Wednesday’s 4-0 whitewash of Club Brugge in a Champions League qualifier.
The former Anderlecht youngster has now been landed a blow as he will now miss the tough trip to South Wales, with his compatriot Marouane Fellaini likely to come in.
The former Everton giant has yet to feature for the Red Devils in the league as he had been serving a three match suspension accumulated from last season. But Fellaini has shown his worth in the Champions League fixtures against Brugge, and could now feature against Swansea on Sunday.
It remains to be seen whether van Gaal will make Fellaini play the number role which Januzaj has played in before, or whether Memphis Depay will be fixed in that position.
Januzaj has performed well in the central playmaker’s role behind the striker in recent weeks, having been deployed in that position against Aston Villa and Newcastle, as well as both legs of the Champions League qualifier against Club Brugge.
The young attacker has an 89 per cent pass accuracy in the league this season, and make-shift right winger Juan Mata has been United’s most creative player so far this season, creating 8 in 3 appearances, of which one was converted. Incidentally, this is the only assist by a Red Devils in the league this season.
