Manchester United TABLES £20m Offer For La Liga Defensive Star – Not Otamendi, Not Ramos

According to reports, Manchester United have suffered a setback in their bid to sign Atletico Madrid 2nd choice goalkeeper, Jan Oblak. The Red devils had pointed out the player as a potential replacement for want-away goalkeeper, David de Gea.

The 22 year-old goalkeeper was particularly impressive for the Madrid side last term. Despite only featuring in the wake of an injury to first-choice keeper Miguel Moya, a string of important saves and vital clean sheets Oblak made and kept when called upon, endeared him to many of the club’s faithfuls.

After losing out in the race to sign former Stoke City keeper, Asmir Begovic, Louis van Gaal appears unwilling to be caught napping- should a move away for De Gea eventually materialize- and had sent out a delegation to Madrid.

However, despite receiving an official £20 million bid for Oblak, reports state that Athletico Madrid have rejected the bid; leaving manager Louis van Gaal almost bereft of goalkeeper options.

It is expected that United raise their bid for Oblak in the coming days, or altogether seek a new goalkeeping option, before the transfer window closes.
