Manchester United Urged to Meet Release Clause and Splash £47m on New Cristiano Ronaldo

Man Utd have been strongly linked with a move for Benfica midfielder Renato Sanches recently. Some reports suggested that United attempted to sign the player in the January transfer window, but failed. They are expected to reignite their interest in summer.

United’s attempts to sign the Benfica man have now received backing from their former star Owen Hargreaves.

Sanches played a part in Benfica’s 1-0 Champions League win over Zenit St. Petersburg last night and Hargreaves, who was a part of the panel on BT Sport, claimed that United should break the bank for the 18-year old

He said on BT Sport: “I’m not sure 60m euros is a gamble. The release clause is ridiculous, but he’s gonna be a super player no question.

“18-year-old, only played fifteen games so far but he’s got a terrific future ahead of him. He’s more of a box-to-box midfielder. Really good passer of the ball. Great striker of the ball from distance.”

Sanches has a release clause of £62million (80m euros) in his contract, but a bid of around £47million (60m euros) would be enough to convince them into selling their prized asset.
He has broken into Benfica’s first team this season and has already established himself in the starting eleven.
