Mats Hummels Could FINALLY Join Manchester United

As the transfer window continues, the pressure on Louis Van Gaal and Ed Woodward to land a defender in the winter transfer window intensifies and the screams from the fan base left, right and centre to sign highly rated German defender Mats Hummels gets louder. New reports claim United have tabled a new £35m bid. After plans to sign Mats Hummels were unsuccessful in the summer transfer window, Manchester United have re-kindled their interest in the 26 year old who just returned from injury after an injury plagued season which has seen him make only 10 appearances this season. Despite Dortmund having rejected so many bids from Manchester United, the Old Trafford club are maintaining a lot of confidence that they can still seal a deal for the highly courted centre-back. Dortmund would be looking to ward off suitors off their Captain who would be desperately needed to save their disastrous season but might be tempted to cash in on Hummels provided the right offer is made.

Manchester United season has been ridiculed with defensive injuries and this has forced Louis Van Gaal to move in the transfer market as Mats Hummels tops the Louis Van Gaal wishlist. The Red Devils will definitely be willingly to increase their bid and offer the 26 year old a sumptuous contract offer to join United. A bid in a region of £30million – £50 million should be enough to entice Dortmund into selling their captain but negotiations might drag for a bit.

Mats Hummels should not be a new name to any United fan after being part of the German team defence that won the World Cup and got selected in the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team. After coming through Bayern Munich youth academy before joining Borussia Dortmund on loan and later signing for them in January 2008. He established a formidable partnership with Subotic which earned them the best defensive record in Bundesliga in the 2010/2011 season. He has risen through the ranks with impressive performances constantly to emerge one of the best defenders in Europe helping Dortmund to two league titles and finishing as runners-up in the UEFA champions league.

The departure of Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra in one transfer window left Manchester United with an inexperienced defence line; Defenders like Evans have failed to step into the big shoes left by these defenders. As a World-Cup winner and Champions League runner-up, it is proven that Mats Hummels has played at the highest level possible and is enriched with a whole lot experience which our current defence lacks. We also lack a commander or leader someone who can organize the defence and bring stability to shaky defence.

The match against Leicester showed how much a leader was needed, if we had an experienced leader on the field our defence would have been composed and solid instead of collapsing like it did. A player of Mats Hummels calibre is definitely needed and should be gotten at any cost. Fans should not also forget we signed Vidic and Evra in the January Transfer window and they proved to be great signings, I believe the same jinx could follow Mats Hummels if we sign him in this winter transfer window.
