Medical Done – Arsenal Could Announce Transfer Of Englishman

We are only a couple of days into the January window, and two players have already departed the club with none moving the other direction. Last night, reports filtered in that Arsenal’s young striker Benik Afobe who has been on loan to MK Dons was undergoing a medical at a Championship club believed to be Wolves.

The news came out of nowhere, especially as the 21 year old has been in blistering form, scoring 19 goals. His goal scoring form might have attracted the attention of Wolves’ manager Kenny Jackett.

The Star reports that Afobe underwent a medical yesterday, and is set to formalise moves to the Championship club. It is not known at this time if the reports are true, but the fact that he never really featured in Wenger’s plan these past years may just make this deal one to watch.

Afobe spent the last couple of seasons away on loan, which gave clear indication that the manager didn’t really rate him as one to work his way into the first team.

His goals for MK Dons in the Capital One Cup match against Manchester United helped the team to scale through to the next round.

Once compared to Arsenal legend Ian Wright, Afobe is one of those players who never really made it through the first team. Unlike Chuba Akpom, who has featured a couple of times for the first team, Afobe never really had it going for him.

No confirmation has been made by Arsenal, but an indication that this could be true was given on Sunday when MK Dons’ manager Karl Robinson was quoted to have said through his club’s official Twitter handle that:

“BREAKING: Karl Robinson has confirmed that striker Benik Afobe is in talks with an unnamed club regarding a potential permanent move” according to a tweet after the game via @MKDonsFC, the MK Dons FC official twitter account.

“We can’t say who that’s to, but he’s having a medical somewhere and he is maybe moving onto other things. We wish him good luck” Robinson.
