Just after the copa America which was held in Chile and was won by the Chile national team ended, Arsenal were said to be close to signing Chilean’s powerful defensive midfielder Charles Aránguiz in a deal then said to be worth 15 million. The player was reportedly been convinced by Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez to join the gunners.
However, weeks later, nothing has been said about the supposed Arsenal move for Charles Aránguiz and the player has instead chosen to join Bayer Leverkusen in the German bundesliga. Having watched all of Chile’s matches at the copa America, Charles Aránguiz is one hell of a defensive midfielder Arsenal could do with especially as there seems to be a scarcity of defensive midfielders in the market.
It is even much more annoying when you consider the fact that Wenger could have signed the player for as little as £9.25m which is the fee Leverkusen reportedly paid for him. He will be dorning the number 20 shirt for the German giants.
Having missed out on this great opportunity, one can only hope Wenger knows what he is doing. It will be suicidal to rely on a season wonder thats Francis Coquelin ( sad but true ) for the whole of the season. He could get injured and he could well fail to replicate the stellar performances of last season.
