Medical scheduled – club to announce 1st January signing as terms are agreed

Manchester United have had scoring issues this season as skipper Wayne Rooney has gone on a scoreless streak for months and the only sharp striker in United is currently the French youngster Anthony Martial. Martial who has been compared to former French international Thierry Henry by pundits and football analysts claiming the pair have a similar style of play.

It is no secret that Manchester United have gone into the market to shop for a striker who will provide competition for the misfiring Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial. According to the Telegraph the form of Besiktas forward Mario Gomez has caught the eye of Manchester United.

Mario Gomez has been in fine scoring form for the Istanbul side since joining them on loan from Serie A side Fiorentina. Even though Besiktas crashed out of the Europa League against Sporting Lisbon last Friday, Mario Gomez was still on target as he scored the only goal for Besiktas.

The German international has an excellent goal scoring record in UEFA competitions having scored 42 times in both the Champion’s League and Europa League which makes it the fourth highest for a German player in the competition.

Mario Gomez would be a good buy for United as he would provide competition for the misfiring Wayne Rooney, his acquisition could make the England international up his game as Gomez is a force to reckon with up front.

The 30 year old German international is considered an aerial threat and can shoot with both feet, his best ability still remains his ability to anticipate crosses and passes and his good positioning.
