Mertesacker & Ozil Tells German To Ignore Chelsea To Join Arsenal

In an attempt to fill the void in their midfield, Arsenal have turned to embattled Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira and the deal seem to be in its final stage until Chelseatried to hijack it but with recent reports coming from the Daily Star, it appears that Khedira’s national team-mates Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil have made attempts to convince their countryman to join them at the Emirates.

It will be recalled that it was after impressive performances at the 2010 World Club in South Africa, that Real Madrid made a swoop on both Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira.

It was earlier reported that Arsenal had reached an agreement on personal terms with the 27-year-old but are yet to get a fee across to his current employers. Of a truth, the Arsenal really need a midfield enforcer of Sami Khedira’s status as they have been very frail in the midfield this season. With Santi Carzola, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil being some of the few midfielders who can actually hold the reins for the Gunners, it is very conspicuous the lack of physical presence which usually gets exaggerated each time they face a top four team.

After succumbing to a 2-0 defeat away to Chelsea, the Gunners almost threw another game against Hull City away were it not for the last minute equalizer from summer arrival Danny Welbeck. However, while the Germans in Arsenal’s rank may have tried to influence Sami Khedira, it should be noted that under José Mourinho, the midfielder blossomed and in fact enjoyed a wonderful phase of his career during the Portuguese’s period at the Spanish capital. Hence if José Mourinho really needs the midfielder, the wonderful relationship he once had with the German could be brought to bare.

Meanwhile, at Arsenal’s Annual General Meeting last week, Wenger noted that he will have to sign at least on player in January, and it is difficult to say which of the two Germans, Mats Hummels and Sami Khedira would eventually be signed in the case of a financial restriction.

Eventually, the tie breaker might be the wage structure required to service Khedira’s job at the Emirates. The Spaniard currently earns £150,000-a-week and information making waves indicates that he might have to agree to a pay cut if Wenger is to consider a deal, but this conflicts earlier reports that an agreement has already in place between player and club. Chelsea will surely be lurking around and should Arsenal lag a bit, Khedira might just be reunited with José Mourinho by the New Year.
