Mourinho Hints At £30m Rated Star Signing

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted he would love to have young Real Madrid centre back Raphael Varane at Stamford Bridge. The Portuguese has continued to admire the player he brought to Real Madrid from RC Lens of France as a teenager.

As Jose Mourinho tries to build a new Chelsea squad, who takes the position of Chelsea captain and legend John Terry when he calls it quit at Chelsea has been the question on most peoples lips. And there were speculations linking the French international to his former boss all through the summer but no concrete offer was ever seemed to be made.

Blue boss has however conceded his admiration for the 22-year-old but believes that the player will continue to stay at the Santiago Bernabéu.

“Everyone says he will go to Chelsea because they know I really like him.

“However everyone also knows that he is staying at Real Madrid.” Mourinho said.

This could be an hint of what to expect in the summer especially as John Terry is nearer to retirement. Varane is regarded as one of the best centre back around the world in his age and he is highly spoken of by other footballer. Former Manchester United defender has claimed that it would cost any club that seeks the youngster’s signature around £70m since the player has just penned a new long term contract with Madrid but it is expected that a bid of £30m – £50m will be enough to prize him away.

John Terry has continued to defy his age(he will. Turn 34 next month) to perform at a high level and his partnership with fellow English Gary Cahill has been outstanding. There were initial concerns over the defence in the beginning of the season but those issues looks to have trashed out as the team has kept three consecutive clean sheets before the international break and the defence once again look formidable.

Chelsea have also brought in Kuyt Zouma over the summer though the player was signed and loaned back to Saint Ettiene of France in January. Zouma is already seen as an understudy to Terry, though the player is yet to make his first league appearance but has played in the capital one cup win over Bolton Wanderers.

Varane has had his best year so far at Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho in the 2012/13 season where he made fifteen league appearances and 33 in all competition. He broke into the team with some impressive display and ousted the likes of Pepe from the Madrid line-up prompting Mourinho to label him “the problem of Pepe ” when the Portuguses was asked about his fued with some Madrid players. He also represented Le blue of France at the FIFA 2014 world cup in Brazil.

He has however not been regular under Carlo Ancelotti as the Italian coach still prefer the Pepe-Ramos partnership in defence. He will continue to be linked to Mourinho’s Chelsea least for the fact that both had a good working relationship while at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Chelsea will still continue to monitor the progress of the young defenders at the club, the likes of Christensen and Zouma but will also keep an eye on the French international while John Terry and Gary Cahill continue to lead the line from behind.
