Manchester United’s deal for Valencia defender Nicola Otamendi has been thrown into doubt after it was revealed that he will return to his current club for pre season, squashing rumors suggesting his signing is about to be completed. Otamendi, 27 recently participated in the Copa America and is currently on holidays and as a result not joined up with his club teammates for preseason fueling rumors of an imminent switch to the old Trafford club.
Reports from Valencia have in on good authority that the defensive hard man has his ticket already booked to mestalla later this week. Earlier reports had suggested Otamendi will refuse to return to Valencia as he pushes for a move to Man Utd. But he has been told any attempt to force through a move will be not go down well with the Mestalla bigwigs and might do him more harm than good.
However Otamendi still has his heart set for a move to Old Trafford despite his expected return to Valencia for pre season. The Argentine currently has a €50m release clause attached to his contract and Man Utd so far have refused to pay the fee which they consider exorbitant for the defender. ‘
United face competition from Man city, PSG and Real Madrid for Otamendi signature. But their first choice defensive target seems to be Sergio Ramos who they have been issued a hand off warning from Madrid. United will exhaust all avenues to sign Ramos before they turn their attentions to Otamendi. But expect a transfer this summer as Otamendi seems to have made up his mind to leave and isn’t short of suitors.
Otamendi is currently one of the hottest properties in world football and was voted into the La Liga team of the season as well as the Copa America team of the tournament.
