Earlier this summer when news emerged that Chelsea may be allowing Brazilian left back Luis Filipe to leave the club, many left backs were linked to the club as a potential replacement. One particular name that I was happy that was linked with a move to Stamford bridge is FC Porto’s defender Alex Sandro, another Brazilian.
I was particularly happy not because he is Brazilian, I was happy because he is the type of player that Chelsea could do with in the left back position. He is simply a very reliable defender, he marvellously combines his primary defensive duties with a strong overlapping runs.
However, after signing Baba Rahman, Chelsea do not need Sandro any more but rather the player is off to Juventus. According to reports, a bid has been accepted by Porto from Juvent for the player who has this afternoon ( according to reports ), flown to Italy to undergo a medical with the Italian champions.
We may never get to know whether Chelsea was ever interested in him or not but one thing is fact, Juventus are getting a very quality player and he could well have been Chelsea’s replacement for Luis Filipe.
