6ft 3 Tall Defensive Star Arrives At Old Trafford, Could Play For United In January
Manchester United on-loan goalkeeper has returned to Old Trafford as Rochdale have confirmed that Joel Castro Pereira has returned to United after his loan spell ended on Friday and the League One outfit confirmed this on their club’s official website. The 19-year-old goalkeeper joined Rochdale on an initial one-month loan last month but has had to head back to United after making just one appearance during his temporary loan spell.
Pereira, who is yet to make his breakthrough into the Red Devils’ first team, played the full 90 minutes in Rochdale’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area Quarter Final tie against Morecambe on Tuesday. The Portugal Under-21 international would have gladly increased his loan spell with another three months but reportedly wanted assurances from Rochdale boss Keith Hill regarding his playing time but the manager could not give it.
Keith said, “He has returned to Manchester and disappointingly so, may I add. He’s an excellent player, I love him to bits and he suits me as a Manager with the type of goalkeeper that he is – he’s very flamboyant, very risqué and very confident. I’m glad that he came to us and I’m glad that he played on Tuesday night because I thought he was excellent.”
The young goalkeeper may have preferred to go back to Old Trafford maybe to learn or challenge for a spot in the first team but I do not see that happening anytime soon as the current United goalkeeper has been in a fantastic form and no side has conceded less goals in the English Premier League so far this season than Manchester United. So it might be difficult to bench such a goalkeeper but it remains to be seen though.
