Olivier Giroud Confirms 1st January Signing is Done, Player to Get Work Permit This Week

Arsene Wenger is a happy man after Koscielny scored a goal to ensure Arsenal stay top of the league for at least another week. The New Year has started on a positive note and Gunners are anxious about chances of January signings.

Arsenal has been strongly linked with FC Basel’s midfielder, Mohamed Elneny with reports on media hinting the deal is done. However, speaking post-match, Wenger has denied confirming any such reports.

“I have nothing to say because he is not our player”, said Wenger according to Arsenal.com. “We have not signed anybody and we are not imminently in a position where we can say we have signed somebody. We are out there to get someone but at the moment we haven’t signed anybody.”

Another report suggests the Frenchman has hinted at a new signing in the next 10 days. According to the Independent, Wenger said, “I don’t give much away because I don’t know [what’s happening with transfers]. I want to talk about them and hopefully we are capable of doing something in the next 10 days.”

“It’s more about quality than quantity because our players will not stay out injured forever. Francis Coquelin is starting to run, Santi Cazorla will be back in mid-February, and Mikel Arteta is back now so, hopefully, if we can add one and, if needed, two maximum.”
On the other side, French striker Olivier Giroud revealed the talk in the Gunners’ dressing room is that Mohamed Elneny is a done deal.

Elneny is stated to complete a move of £7.3m from FC Basel. Medical has been completed, and after acquiring a work visa, the 23 year old will be officially announced as an Arsenal player. The Egyptian is said to have agree on a four and half year deal with the Gunners.

Arsenal will face Sunderland next on Saturday for their FA Cup fixture. They will face Liverpool in the following week whom they will fight to remain leaders of the title race.
