Phil Jones Returns to Training, Set To Play Against Tottenham

Much to the delight of United fans, English defender Phil Jones has returned to training, he didn’t play against Southampton yesterday as he is not fully fit. The 23 year old was ruled out with a suspected calf injury just a week to United’s opening match against Tottenham.

However, scans later revealed that Phil Jones was suffering from a minor thrombosis which has kept him out of action for close to about a month now. Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has applauded his staff for their diligence in diagnosing the thrombosis early which allowed it to be sorted out quickly. The injury to Phi Jones saw Louis Van Gaal draft in Daley Blind to partner Chris Smalling in the heart of Manchester United’s defence much to the disapproval of United fans.

However the Dutchman has gone on to prove a lot of doubters wrong, helping his team secure three clean sheets and registering  a successful pass percentage of 90 per cent. With Louis Van Gaal still mourning the loss of Luke Shaw, the return of Phil Jones will be a major boost for the Dutch manager as it increases United’s defensive options ahead of a numerous amount of matches to be played this season.

Jones arrival will definitely see Daley Blind shifted to a familiar left-back position, which was the position he played for Holland in the last World Cup. Nevertheless, United will be looking to close the gap between them and Manchester City as they square up against Southampton on Sunday
