Liverpool are inching closer to reaching an agreement with Newcastle United for the potential transfer of Jose Enrique, according to the reports.
Liverpool Echo claims that the Magpies are interested in signing their former player and have approached the Reds over a possible transfer.
The 30-year-old defender is currently in the last year of his contract with the Reds and will be a free agent in the summer.
He currently doesn’t feature in manager Jurgen Klopp’s plans and has failed to make a league appearance for the club this season. He has made only 12 league appearances for the Merseysiders during the past three seasons.
The Spaniard signed for Liverpool in a £6million move from the Geordies in 2011.
His only appearances this season have come in the FA Cup ties against Exeter City and West Ham, and he has only played only 83 minutes of first-team football over the course of 2015.
