It is now official that Liverpool Have completed a loan signing of center-back Steven Caulker until the end of the season from Championship side QPR. The defender has already joined his Liverpool teammates In Melwood training session after completing the loan move from QPR today.

The last 24 hours have been eventful for defender Steven Caulker, to be precise, from rumored interest to a rushed medical and paperwork session, to a quick arrival at Melwood training ground for training with his new teammates. According to recent reports, the 24-year-old could be featured in the Red’s squad that will play against Arsenal at Anfield.

Liverpool announced the deal on the Twitter account, saying: “LFC have completed the signing of Steven Caulker on loan until from Queens Park Rangers until the end of the season.”
A statement on the clubs website went further to clarify why the Reds had completed the signing. It stated: “The relevant paperwork has been completed in time to allow the center-back to be eligible for selection for Wednesday evening’s Barclays Premier League fixture with Arsenal at Anfield.”

“Caulker, who has Premier League experience as well as being capped by England, showed a willingness to commit to the Reds at short notice. The 24-year-old’s arrival eases the injury situation the club are currently facing in defense, which includes both short and long-term absentees”

Caulker completed his move to Liverpool after cutting short his loan deal with Southampton. Southampton manager Ronald Koeman was happy cut out-of-favor Caulker’s loan short when Liverpool declared their interest to sign the defender.

The former England Under 21 international was on loan at Southampton from his parent club Queens Park Rangers (QPR).

Speaking about Caulker’s move to Anfield, Koeman said: “We spoke about his situation on Tuesday evening. Steven came in in the summer before we signed Virgil van Dijk because we had long-term injuries and he was a back-up. He didn’t play a lot and normally we have more defenders for that position. I am not to stop his opportunity to play for Liverpool.”

Speaking on the club’s website, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp termed Caulker’s arrival on loan as a ‘very important move.’

“In our situation, four weeks ago we didn’t know we’d have a problem with center-halves because they were all in the race. At the start of the season, Joe Gomez was also in the squad, so a fifth center-half – and then the situation changed completely.”

“Now, we’ve had to make a decision whether we wanted to get another player for the position. The situation is Martin Skrtel is not available for around about the next four-and-a-half weeks, five weeks.“
“Then we have the problem with Dejan – it’s only a little muscle injury. I think he’ll be available in one to one-and-a-half weeks. Then you have Mama with a little knee issue – he can play, but it’s not perfect and you cannot bring him three or four times in a row throughout the season.

“And it’s the same for Kolo and so would mean we are always in this situation, do we have enough or not? So we thought, ‘Yes, good idea’. We looked for Premier League experience because in this short time, you need that experience. And we’ve found it with Steven Caulker. We are absolutely convinced that Steven is the best solution for us.”
