One of those players who were linked with Manchester United after Chelsea took Pedro from under the Red Devils’ noses has been spotted at Old Trafford.
Southampton attacker Sadio Mane was reportedly spotted at the Theatre of Dreams centre, suggesting a move could be on the cards. This was claimed by a Twitter user [@Shehroze_MUFC] who ran into Mane at the Old Trafford centre and asked for a photo, and then asked the 23-year old about rumours linking him with a move to Man United.
“My cousin just ran into Mane at Old Trafford centre & asked him why he was here? Mane smiled, winked and walked away,” he tweeted.
Mane’s wink and presence at the Red Devils’ centre could be pointing to the fact that a deal is imminent.
The 20-time Premier League kings are now set to return to Southampton with a second offer of around £20m to sign Mane, according to the Mirror.
The Senegal international attacker joined the Saints from Red Bull Salzburg last summer and has enjoyed success in the English top division, scoring 10 goals in 29 appearances including the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history in the 6-1 whitewash of Aston Villa last season.
The speedy and agile forward can play in a number of attacking roles and he would no doubt suit the position van Gaal would have wanted Pedro to fill. According to the Mirror, the Dutchman is a long-term admirer of Mane.
Should the Saints accept United’s offer, it is left to be seen where the 23-year old would fit in, as there are several players in the Red Devils’ team who already possess similar qualities to Mane’s. The Senegalese would have to battle the likes of Memphis Depay, Adnan Januzaj, Ashley Young and Juan Mata for a place in the team.
United drop points against Newcastle yesterday in their third Premier League game, and Mane’s arrival will no doubt bolster the squad.
