With the woeful performance of captain John Terry in the last two games, the fact that Chelsea needs another centre back to take over from the Chelsea legend is very obvious. John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi are names that have been linked to the Blues in the last few weeks but unless Chelsea manages to pull off a deal for John Stones, they may end the summer without having signed any of their central defense targets.
This is because Manchester City have completed the signing of Nicolas Otamendi in a deal said to be for £31 million. An offer of £90,000 a week seem to have got City the player ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United who have been linked to him in the last few weeks.
Otamendi would definitely have improved Chelsea and considering he has played in the La Liga, Champions league, copa America and ultimately the world cup, he is definitely better than John Stones.
Stones may be a good player but he simply does not have the big stage experience that Otamendi would have come with and for £40 million, I personally think Chelsea are spending a big too much to replace John Terry.
Below is the picture of Otamendi signing his contract with Manchester City.
